My New Addiction: the french knot

Like I need another. But. I am loving working on this

I'm by no means an expert stitcher, embroider-ess, but this sure is a hell of a lot of fun. I find it puts me in a very relaxed mood, much like knitting does. Once I started, I couldn't stop. Here is the progress I've made thus far. My favorite, you ask? definitely the sheep.. but I made him too bushy, his 'fur' hides his little black legs. A.dor.a.ble. No?
This is the first time using the 'french knot', and the 'slipped french knot' and the 'chain stitch', and the 'seed stitch'. Thank goodness for this. For anyone who might want to take this up, I would highly recommend this book, The Embroidery Stitch Bilble by Betty Barnden. It is INCREDIBLE. The explanations and the pictures are so great and really easy to follow. Next, some birds (I'll be using Pam Garrison's stamps as templates for my birdies). And some more flowers. I'm gonna have to come up with a whole-lot-ta cuteness to fill up this baby. Perhaps I was a little too enthusiastic thinking I could possibly fill up this entire canvas. This is indeed the perfect night time task to help me wind down and relax my brain. Lurve-ing it!! If you want to see more cuteness, click on the 'i'm stitching along' icon on the right hand side of my blog...
Here is me, right here, right now. Yeah, I know, SEXY or what?!?!? and yes, still no new hair cut. What can I say... :
And this is what we're reading EVERY night, three times a night, each! yeah! I think I know the words by heart.. it's a good thing I too love your stories Robert.
And this is what I'm so thankful for today. Espresso. Double, short and strong! I can't live without you:
Oh, and Hambly, I'll get to you next, I promise!!

Happy day,

i carry your heart

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)

i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)

and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you.

here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

A Page and A Purse

Just bought this awesome pilot bag, from Danica Studio, Aviary collection. And I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with it. Ain't she perdy? The photo doesn't actually do it justice.. so much cuter IRL. They make the most awesome, hip products. To see more of the aviary line click here. And take a look at their website here for more product. So worth the visit. She holds everything, from my camera, to my journal and pens, my little make-up bag, wallet, eye glasses, and my little chihuahua (ha, if I had one maybe!!). It's great.

And finally got my mojo back to scrapbook. I have three Studio Calico kits sitting on my desk forever just waiting to be used. This is a very simple page, no embellies, just like I wanted it. Uncomplicated, and easy. Just how I want my life to be.

Studio Calico did I tell you how much I love you. Well, I do. Lots.

Off to do a few loads of laundry, and create. This time I hope to use some of my Hambly Limited Edition collection. Beauty. Ah, Hambly, did I mention how much I love you too! O I do. Lots.

Happy Sunday everyone!

What's For Dinner

This is what we're having for dinner tonight! Pad Thai. Yumm-o.

Here it is in the stove, a little bit of chicken, shrimp, scrambled egg, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower with rice noodles, in the final stages of cooking:
Crushing the peanuts with my mortar and pestal, so quick and effortless:

The finished product, garnished with wedges of lemon lime, cilantro and crushed peanuts:

Delish! This is my most favorite kind of dinner. Esay, and oh-so-yumm-o!!

Off to read some art magazines, with a cup of coffee and enjoy the silence. Oh silence how I miss you.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Stitchalong with Amy Powers

You have to check this out. It's the most adorable thing I've ever seen. Amy Powers has a super inspirational blog that I follow and she's started this stitchalong. Every day she stitches 'something' into her one' by one' squares.

It was this piece by AMY POWERS that inspired me many months ago, and has inspired me yet again to pick up my hoop, canvas, and threads...

Ok, how adorable is the Marie Antoinette image?? and that mushroom?? ok and that sheep?? Love love love.

Isn't it the cutest thing ever? It just makes me want to smile.

Yup, I'm going to give it a try. I have all the goods ready... I may start today, but I'll follow along at my own pace, don't think I can manage one a day... despite the small size. Perhaps before bed would be a good time to do this. We'll see...

If you wish to follow along, if you go to my sidebar you'll see the 'i'm stitchingalong' badge, just click on it and it'll take you to the site with all the directions.

Happy stitching peeps.

Have a beautiful day!

The Artistic Mothers Art Group

Well, I've finally managed to find some time to take out the paints, paper, sprays, inks, stamps, and I went to town.

I've started my backgrounds using Golden fluid inks. I just love the way they spread and sink into watercolour paper. So fabulous.

Then I added some stencils, and used adirondack inks and stencils. Ed Roth, bless you for your beautiful stencils.

Next, I'll add more depth and dimension by adding some of my favorite stamps; some collage elements, and some paint on top of all of that... one big glorious inky, painty, collagy mess.

All the while, I'm taking, collecting, and printing tidbits of my life as a mother.
But I'll get to that in my next post.
Ok, now off to enjoy a balmy 18 degree, sunny, glorious day! Yay, spring!!
Happy day everyone,

Happy Spring

The weather is absolutely beautiful in Toronto. It's been sunny, and approx 15 - 17 degrees (record highs for this time of year), and it feels GOOD.
Hope you're all enjoying some wonderful spring weather.

All Princessed Out!

We had so much fun at the Disney on Ice, Princess Classics show. I'm literally, all princessed out. Elisa like every other little girl out there was in awe. For a little monkey who can't sit still for more than a second, actually sat through the entire first half, clapping and waving and singing along. And for the last half, she got brave and stood and danced. She was so incredibly cute.

What wasn't cute was the price of things! A coke was $4.50. A mickey mouse light-up-thingie was $22.00; a box of popcorn was $7.00; and a snow cone in a tinkerbell mug was $15.00. Rip off, supreme. But we bought them anyway because Elisa wanted them. And she was happy. And that's all that mattered.

Hoping to scrap this weekend! And work on some projects from Shona Cole's, The Creative Mother (click on the button on my side bar to see what other mothers are creating).

I'm laying low, letting the pressure to create, to compete, to do anything.. go, and enjoying my family, the coming of spring, our warm'ish sunny days. And lovin' it.

Happy Monday everyone!

The Artistic Mother, by Shona Cole

I'm devouring this book.
As a busy mom of two small children, I can use all the tips I can get to help me stay creative even with a busy life. To keep me motivated and accountable to staying creative, I've joined The Artistic Mother's Group. You'll find all the details over at Trudy's blog. Come join us.
Each week I'll do a post of my progress as I go through the book. And I'll post links to others in the group so you can see what everyone else has done.
Get your book now, cause the launch of the Artistic Mothers Group starts March 6, 2010.
Hope to see you there.
Happy Thursday,
