LIVE OUT LOUD

This is my latest creation. It's called, 'LIVE OUT LOUD'.
I read that phrase somewhere is scrap-land and it immediately spoke to me.
I knew I had to do something with this so I sat in my scrap space (aka my hole in the wall aka basement) and sat and sat thinking about how I should start this.

Then some fabric I've been hoarding by Anna Maria Horner caught my eye. Which, inadvertantly was sitting next to some stretched canvases I've also been hoarding (and meaning to use for a long while now). So, I pulled both the fabric and the canvas out of my stash and thought why not use this, I could collage it, put it on canvas, use my paints and then I just got started, on auto-pilot, just doing what felt right, and not too much thinking once I got started.

I wanted something bold, bright, colourful, something that made a statment and was fitting for, 'LIVE OUT LOUD'. I decided this is going to hang somewhere in my scrap space (aka my hole in the wall, basement - smile!), to cheer things up and at the same time inspire me with all it's bright cheerfulness, against the dull-ery of my 'hole in the wall'. Laugh.

This is how it turned out:
I must learn to take better photographs of my pages. Maybe I need a new camera. Hmmm. My photos never ever really do justice to my work. I must get on this. Cause really, this IRL is really so much more vibrant and pretty in all it's little details.
She now hanging pretty in my scrap-space! Yeah.
So totally inspired these days by the likes of Patti van Dorin, Kelly Rae Roberts and Teesha Moore. Art journaling and collaging are so up my ally. I'm loving experimenting and doing something I didn't think I could do. It's taking me out of my 'box', and it feels great playing with paints and just making 'it' up along the way.
Thanks for looking and O HAPPY DAY everyone. It's really feeling like spring today, the sun is shining and it's 27 degrees. YEAH!

EARTH DAY AND BABY SEN

Let me introduce to you my new baby, Baby Sen.

Before you go any further, please watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFIal24X9Nk&feature=player_embedded

He's a 2 1/2 years old Orangutan. He was born and lives in Borneo, and currently being rehabilitated at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Sen was found in the forest, tied to a tree and left for dead. Apparently, the Orangs are being killed because they forage on the palm oil plants plantation. They're considered pests. Imagine. My heart just breaks for these beautiful, soulful animals. We're treading on their territory and killing them in the process. What is wrong with this world. So cruel, inhumane and heartless.

Needless to say, Sen was saved, as are many others that are brought to the rehab centre an organization to prevent the extinction of this very precious, and beautiful species. I can't imagine a world without orangs in it! My ultimate most favorite-est species on this planet. If I didn't study archaeology I would have majored in anthropology (social) and would have lived with the apes in the forest studying them and trying hard to preserve their habitats and longevity. Fate had it, that I wouldn't do either. But somehow, it's managed to find it's way back into my life.

A co-worker of mine, make the trek to Borneo as a volunteer every summer to work at the rehab centre, literally taking care of baby orangs that are orphaned. They're taken care of and then eventually, on a gradual process, brought back to the forest. Charmaine took these photos of Sen, and she was the one who bought him his little onesie and little dollie and nurtured him. She is going back again this July for a month to do the same thing, and will take additional photos of my little Sen for me as an update.

I will be visiting the site to adopt my little Sen. It'll be my contribution to human-kind. They are our closest (genetically speaking) relative in the animal world.

And it being EARTH DAY there is no better time to start doing this.

My way of living out a dream vicariously through Charmaine.

Thanks Char, for this opportunity.

And if anyone else out there loves orangutans as much as we do, please visit the Orangutan Appeal UK site to donate or adopt an orangutan.
Happy Earth Day everyone!

I saw these Melissa Frances products on Linda Albrecht blog and I've fallen in love with them. I then went to the Melissa Frances website, but they only sell to businesses. I must do an on-line search. Please do let me know if anyone knows where I can purchase these.

I love Melissa Frances products but I find they're difficult to get a hold of. Hmmm me gots to do some research! Nothing like a mad woman on a mission for some new scrap product. Watch out!

Smile.

Custom Made Blog Banner

How much fun is this! I just adore blog land. What a blast this is and so totally addictive.

So I got bored with my blog banners and tried my hand at creating my own. This is what I came up with. I've also changed the blog template. You know, just to shake things up a bit.

This is my edited version using Flikr:

This was my scanned original:

Big difference, huh!

I had this gorgeous vintage Cavallini and Co. wrapping paper which had a bunch of photos of vintage postcards. So, I cut out one of my favorite postcards and added some distressing, some hand stitched zig-zag, some circles with crackle paint, distress stickles, white souffle pen, some black rub-on alphas, and my American Crafts Thickers that I painted with linen crackle paint, then outlined it with black zig pen, and then when dry topped it off with more distress stickles. And voila.

But, how come I can't get it to go across the page. I did this on an 8 1/2 by 11 page. Maybe I need to do this on a 12 x 12 page. Don't know, I must experiment. Geesh, don't know what took me so long to come up with this idea.

I'm having a blast editing my photos on flikr! I find it much easier to do this on flikr than with photoshop. Go figure!

The kids are asleep, Samson is snoring away by my feet, I have an espresso in my hand, and I have the rest of the night to enjoy BY MY SELF. Yeahhhhh. Meeee time...

Love to all,

Francesca

Mini-Me

Laugh. I so love this pic of me when I was about 5. I remember the day like it was yesterday. Josine (aka Jojo) was there; Stravoula (aka Boo-boo) was there; and of course the cousins were there too aka Domenic, Peter, Matthew. Such fun.

Oh to be five, wasting the day chasing butterflies, playing hide and seek, and sitting at my spot by the back door with my pens and markers and papers. Life sure was good.

Have a great Easter Monday.

Scrapping on Adrenaline!

Last night I was soooo exhausted, yet at the same time I had this sudden surge of creative energy that I just had to release. It was like I was working on autopilot. I had a new stash of papers and a few photos that I've wanted to scrap forever, and I finally put them all to work. These are three pages I put together.

Silly Nicknames: Everyday I sing Elisa this silly song. It comes from a combination of her name in Italian-sounding silly sounds, "Eliz-ella, bella, bella, choo-cha-rella, bella-bella-pappa-rella, choo-cha-bella.." and on and on mixing up the combinations... Elisa now sings along with me when I do this and it's oh so very cute.

Supplies: PP; Prima, Paper Company, Graphic 45, Jenni Bowlen; Amy Butler die-cut butterfly; Making Memories black glitter mini-alphas; Sakura souffle (white) pen; Tim Holtz pink crackle paint and pink distress stickles

Anyone know who makes this ribbon???
This is my Etsy Love page. I bought this really cute outfit from Etsy, and on-line shop where everything sold is hand made. This particular outfit instantly caught my eye. I bought it in half a second. Smile. It suits Elisa's personality, it's both adorable and unique. I used the Graphic 45 papers for this page - the Fashionista line which is very fitting!

Supplies: pp; Graphic 45, Making Memories (black glitter dot) and scallop paper, Thickers alphas.

Here is my Baptism page. I've had these photos of Elisa's baptismal outfits and finally finally scrapped them. I wanted an all white page, with soft feminine elements only. I mod podged old book pages to cardboard, white washed it with gesso, mod podged a few more papers and white washed again, and then added my photos and embellies.

I got to bed at about 2:30 a.m., not even realizing it was that late. I love when scrapping comes together so easily like that.

Have a great Sunday.

Francesca
